Before booking: Check the exact airport route and final stop. An airport bus serving a resort does not mean every hotel is within easy walking distance.

Plan the connection before booking the room
EMT Palma identifies A1 as the airport–Palma centre route. For the north of the island, TIB publishes route A32 between the airport and Can Picafort, with stops along the route. Check current stops and operating dates with the relevant operator before choosing a hotel around a connection.

Make the comparison fit your trip
Start by choosing the kind of holiday you want: a beach base, time in the city or days exploring different parts of the island. That decision is more useful than picking a hotel solely from its photos.
For a beach-focused stay, check the actual walking route and whether the approach suits your group. For a city stay, compare walking distances and public transport. Ask about noise and room position if quiet evenings matter to you.
If renting a car, include parking and pickup time in your budget. A few rental days may suit your plans better than a car for the whole holiday. Check seasonal opening times for any attractions you build your itinerary around.
Where to stay in Mallorca without a car
Palma: consider a city base if your priorities are restaurants, sightseeing and a small number of outings. Compare the hotel’s walking route to transport, not only its distance from the centre.
Playa de Palma or Can Pastilla: consider a beach-focused stay near Palma. Check the exact hotel, beach access and airport stop; a resort name alone does not establish that everything is walkable.
Port d’Alcúdia or Playa de Muro: consider a northern beach base if most days will be spent nearby. Compare the airport journey and return departure for your travel dates before booking.
A flexible four-day Mallorca itinerary without a car
Day 1: arrive and stay close to your base. Day 2: explore Palma if based there, or spend a full beach day near your hotel. Day 3: choose one outing with a confirmed outward and return connection. Day 4: keep plans local and leave room for the airport transfer. This is our suggested planning framework, not a timed tour or a promise of transport availability.
Before choosing a car-free hotel
Check the walking route with luggage, slopes, crossings and access to meals. Match the last airport connection to your actual arrival, allowing for baggage and delays. If a late taxi is necessary, include a quote in the budget. Check winter timetables separately; a summer route is not evidence of year-round service.
When is the cheaper hotel actually cheaper?

Airport bus or rental car: decide from your hotel address
For Palma, start with the A1 airport bus; for the S’Arenal direction, check A2. Aena also lists A32 for Can Picafort. These route names are a starting point, not confirmation that a bus stops beside your hotel. Open the operator’s timetable for both travel dates, locate the actual stop and check the last walking section before paying for accommodation.
Compare three whole-trip options: buses throughout, buses plus one taxi, or a car for selected days. Include every traveller, the return airport journey and any outing that needs a separate ticket. A low daily rental rate is incomplete without collection time, fuel and parking. A refundable deposit is a cash requirement, not an extra holiday expense.
Build a day trip around the return journey
Choose one main destination for an outing and check the journey home first. Record the last suitable return, any change of bus and the route from the stop to your accommodation. Leave space for queues, meals and slower walking; do not assume the final scheduled service is a comfortable backup.
For a remote beach or several scattered stops, compare one rental day with a locally quoted taxi or organised excursion. Keep another day near your base in case the weather changes. Car-free travel works best when the itinerary fits the connections, rather than when every day depends on a different difficult transfer.
A practical Palma-based itinerary without driving
For a four-day stay with Palma as your base, keep arrival day for settling in and a short old-town walk. Use the next full day for Palma and the waterfront, choosing one booked attraction if you want an indoor visit. This keeps the first part of the trip independent of interurban bus connections.
On the third day, choose Valldemossa or Sóller as your main outing. Start with TIB’s current route planner and the return connection; do not try to fit both into the day simply because they appear close on a map. Keep your final day local before the airport journey. For a beach-based stay, replace the city day with time near your accommodation instead of commuting into Palma daily.

Questions before booking
Can you get from Palma airport to your hotel without a car?
Aena lists the A1 bus to Palma centre and A2 towards S’Arenal. For Alcúdia, Platja de Muro and Can Picafort, check the TIB airport services for your dates and exact stop. Match the hotel address to the walking route, then check the return journey separately. A route serving the resort does not guarantee a convenient connection to every hotel, especially after a late flight.
Is it cheaper to rent a car for only part of a Mallorca holiday?
Compare two full quotes: a car for the entire stay, and airport transfers plus a few rental days. Include parking, fuel, selected cover and collection costs in both. Divide the extra cost of the full-stay option by the additional days you would actually use it. If the car would sit parked, compare that amount with the bus or taxi journeys you need. Keep the refundable deposit separate from spending.
